This summer we are blessed to be able to participate in TWO summer studies--one on Wednesday mornings and one on Wednesday evenings.

Our Wednesday morning study will begin on Wednesday, June 13th and will be led by Janet Aronson. Here is an exciting blurb about the study from Janet:

Come out on Wednesday Mornings for a study of 1 Peter. 1 Peter is about how to live a holy life in the midst of the trials and hardships of the world. As we seek to grow deeper with God, we will dig into His word for the nuggets that Peter sent out to the early church, teaching them and us what it looks like to live for God, to live a life of obedience in a world of sin. 6 Wednesdays.

This hauntingly beautiful book will be A Novel Idea's next offering. The time and date have yet to be determined, but it will most probably fall in late March or early April. Women's Retreat 2010

At the end of February, several of us went on a FABULOUS retreat on the Cape. We stayed at a great hotel complete with a wonderful meeting room for us, huge heated pool, and very relaxing and gargantuan HOT TUB!

We laughed. We cried. We connected.

Summer Bible Study!

Join us this summer as we learn how to dethrone the gods in our lives in order to better serve the one true God using Kelly Minter's book called NO OTHER GODS. We will study each Wednesday at 10 AM at the Marturano residence beginning July 15th. Nancy has invited us each to bring a sack lunch, and stay after the study is done for lunch and swimming!

Walking with Jesus

On May 8th, the Women's Team is sponsoring a Walking with Jesus Tea and Fashion Show. The fun will begin at 7 PM and is open to all girls--from the cradle on up!

Eight women have stepped forward to be table hostesses. These women are Kim B, Laura T, Heather S, Susie B, Jen D, Michele V and the "Girls", Nancy M, and Judy A. Tickets for the event are $2.

It's Tough Being a Woman

Hi Girls! Our new study for this semester is a study of Esther by Beth Moore called It's Tough Being a Woman. The study will meet on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8 (the same time as the things for our children and teens) beginning officially on 1/14/09. We will gather on 1/7/09 just for a getting to know you/catching up time as well as a discussion of what you can expect in the study.

Our group had a great time together studying Believing God last semester. We grew spiritually and we grew together as sisters in Christ. We would love nothing better than for you to join us in our journey.

You do NOT have to be a Bible scholar! In fact, you can come with little or no knowledge at all. Week after week last semester, we shared together our struggles and our triumphs, and even those of us who have had years in Bible study found ourselves struggling at times. So, come and join us as we travail together!

It's tough being a woman! Come and let us help you navigate your life when you are "on the ropes"!

A Novel Idea

Hi Ladies! Our November offering for A Novel Idea is In Search of Eden by Linda Nichols. The novel is available online and in the library. It might also be at Heritage House. The meeting to discuss it will be help on 11/17 (Monday) at 7 PM at the Sheldon residence. I hope you'll join us for this great time of fellowship and encouragement.

Here is a little bit about the novel, taken from Publisher's Weekly:

Nichols's latest novel follows the wanderings of Miranda DeSpain, a young woman who has been unable to recover from a painful adolescent experience. An upstanding drifter (she always finds gainful employment where ever she goes), Miranda finds herself in bucolic Abingdon, Virginia, where she meets an array of lovely Christian townsfolk, among them a spunky 11-year-old girl named Eden who helps Miranda find a job and a place to live. Nichols's writing style is often engaging, and while some of her characters are cliched (the ruggedly handsome, tough but tender leading man, for example), a few of her characters, most notably Eden, are quirky and real. Nichols blends the romance genre with a more problem-oriented women's novel here. While there are few surprises and the many coincidences make it difficult to suspend disbelief, the plot holds together well enough, with likable characters fighting nobly against adversity and unlikable characters trying their best to change. Do YOU Believe?

Hi ladies! I am having so much fun being your Women's Ministry Team leader, but I must confess that I need more of you on our team. Please pray about becoming a member of a team that seeks to touch the hearts of women for the Kingdom.

Onto the real issue for this post...

I am SO EXCITED to announce that this fall women will be able to join together in Bible study on Wednesday nights! So no more driving to church and dropping off your kiddos, only to come back minutes later to pick them up. Now you can stay with us and get a real shot of spiritual vitamins for yourself!

Our study is one that is dear to my heart. It is called Believing God by Beth Moore. It was loaned to us by a church in Brockton, and I am so thankful that they blessed us in this way.

Here is a "blurb" about the study that was taken from the lifeway website:
Believing God: Experiencing a Fresh Explosion of Faith by Beth Moore is based on Isaiah 43:10 and explores what it means to not only believe in God but to believe Him.

Do you take God at His Word, believing what He has told you, or do you just believe in His existence and the salvation He offers? Beth Moore came face-to-face with this question well into adulthood. When Saying Thank You Isn't Enough

The other morning I was doing what most of us women do ALL the time. I was multitasking. I was eating my honey nut cheerios, while facebooking, while answering email, and while "watching" Fox and Friends morning news program. In the midst of all the hullabaloo, I heard a snippet that caught my attention.

It was said by a mother of a girl who, I believe, had some sort of brain tumor. Apparently, their insurance decided that they weren't going to cover the surgery to save this girl's life. When a compassionate soul heard about it (I am not sure who it was or how they found out about it), they intervened. The girl was able to have the surgery; it was successful and her life was spared.

Now here's the snippet. Remember it was the mother talking:

"Saying thank you just isn't enough. I mean, you say thank you to someone who holds the door for you. What do you say to someone who saved your child's life?"

(Please note that I am paraphrasing. In the midst of all the multitasking, I didn't have the wherewithal to stop and write down her quote verbatim. AND, anyway, it has been in the hours and days since I heard it that the Holy Spirit has really burned my soul with it.)

Don't you ever feel that saying thank you to God just isn't enough? I do. All the time. When I realize how faithful He has been, and how faithless I can be--and yet He patiently waits for me. When I mess up again and again and again, stumbling over that same sin for the umpteenth time, and yet He still loves me, forgives me, and calls me to His work. When I realize what it means that He sent His son to this dying earth to die for me. For MY transgressions. MY white lies. MY hypocrisy. My sin.

Saying thank you really just isn't enough, now is it? So what then do we do?

The past two weekends I have heard messages from women who are so filled with His Spirit that they are bursting at the seams to tell of His love and His faithfulness. Women who are so in love with Him and His Word. Women who daily devour His Word in such a hungry manner that they can't get enough. And once they've "digested" it, they share it with those whom God has placed in their paths.

I believe, dear Sisters, that THAT is how we say thank you. We immerse ourselves in Him--in His Word, seeking His face and voice. We daily find ourselves on the great adventure of reading the only God-breathed book in the universe. We join others on this great walk of faith of Bible study and encourage them, learn from them, and serve with them.

Then, and only then, when we ourselves are so full up with Him that we could explode, are we prepared and ready to share Him with a lost and dying word. And that world is right outside our doors. Or maybe inside them, too.

We have been blessed with so many opportunities for in-depth Bible study at EBC. And we will be blessed even more in the months to come. Please prayerfully consider saying THANK YOU to our Lord by sojourning with your fellow sisters in the walk of faith that is born through reading, studying, digesting, and sharing the love letter that was God-breathed for such a time as this.

The Shack: Revisited

A Novel Idea's July book is a bestseller in ALL markets, and our book discussion that we held recently was great fun. This book caused us to think, search out what we know and believe, and to really take hold of some of the harder issues of the faith.

Some of our "regulars" couldn't make it to that meeting, so we have decided to do a second meeting--The Shack: Revisited. It will be at Laura T's home at 7 on Monday, August 11th.

A Novel Idea

The date for the next book club meeting has been changed to Wednesday, July 30th. See you there!

Hi Book Clubbers! There has been a change in our plans for our next book. Our next book is actually out of print, so it has been hard to find for a lot of us. So, we are going to be reading The Shack by William Young. It was introduced to us by Diane at our Redeeming Love meeting, and since then I have seen it pop up all over the place. It is actually number 3 on SECULAR book lists as well as high on Christian lists. It is the book to read this summer, and that is exactly what we're going to be doing!

Since it is so popular, copies of it are hard to find so don't wait until the last minute to get yours. Ordering from amazon. com or half.com are easy methods, and I am sure Heritage House will be able to order it for us as well if they don't have it in stock.

I am looking forward to reading and discussing this book with you. Invite a friend and bring some goodies to share....and come ready to dish--about the book, of course!

No High Like the MOST HIGH!

Hi ladies! Welcome back to our blog! I have an exciting announcement for you and your friends. This summer on August 1-2, we have the opportunity to gather with literally tens of thousands of other sisters in Christ to delve deeper into Him, His Word, and His heart. I can think of no better way to spend a summer evening and morning, can you?

Beth Moore will be teaching via simulcast to churches literally ALL OVER the country, and H.I.S. wants YOU to come along with us! The simulcast in our area is being held in Pembroke, MA at the North River Community Church. The event begins at 7:30 PM on Friday night and ends at 1:00 PM on Saturday. Carpooling together is something we hope to work out.

If you would like to attend this life-changing event (and I am NOT exaggerating), then please let me know as soon as possible. The tickets are $40 and checks can be made out to NRCC (North River Community Church). I will be sending off our reservation request on Monday, July 14th so don't delay!

My dear sisters in Christ,

It is with much fear and trembling that I have taken the position as your Women's Ministry Team leader. I am humbled by the opportunity to serve each of you, and I am exhilerated that God would use me to do so.

For many years, He had me in places where women's ministry was done excellently. I benefitted from those women who led me all those years, and now I am on the other end hoping to give back a little of what He has entrusted to me.

Being a woman, a christian woman, is not an easy task. Whether we are single or married, there are demands on our lives that keep us crazy-busy and feeling unfulfilled most of time. Maybe even inadequate. Undeserving. Ashamed. Bound.

But as Mary Mary reminds us in "Shackles", it is through Him that our shackles are indeed freed and released. It is my utter hope and joy that together as we sojourn along through in-depth Bible studies, christian novels, and just plain fun times that each of us will fall more and more deeply in love with the Lover of our souls.

He is Jesus, the One and Only.

And we are H.I.S.
